Teachers at Merces do Turtle Blocks

We had a couple of good training sessions with the Merces primary teachers (last Saturday 16th Jan, and today 22nd Jan). Showed them Turtle Blocks and after an initial struggle understanding the process, they seem quite comfortable with it now. We had them drawing hexagons, triangles and letters of the alphabet – they struggled quite a bit, but enjoyed it all the same – the feeling of having achieved success when you get the figure exactly right is quite something. We even had a teacher who drew a beautiful flower (circle in the middle, triangles all around). Neat.

Our next session will be on Feb 19th 2011; the school is too busy with its Sports Day till then. The XO classes have also been suspended at present due to the Sports Day fever – they’ll restart after 11th Feb. We’ve asked them to start the Turtle Blocks activity in class – keen to see how the kids respond to it.

The teacher training session was conducted by Monsoon Grey (Salil Konkar & Gayathri Rao Konkar) It was financially supported by The Digital Bridge Foundation (DBF). The partners for the OLPC deployment at Merces are DBF, Gnowledge Labs (Homi Bhabha Centre for Science & Education, TIFR) and Nirmala Institute of Education (NIE).
